01.07.2022 / 18:00 – 22:00
With Alan Pauls, Lina Meruane, Manuel Abramovich
Doors: 18:00 / Start: 19:00
On the penultimate evening of Uncommon Grounds, three alumni of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program explore the interconnections between perception of time, migration, and work. Filmmaker Manuel Abramovich presents his award-winning documentary about Romanian sex workers in Berlin, Blue Boy (2019, 19 min). New York-based Chilean novelist Lina Meruane and Berlin-based Argentinian writer Alan Pauls explore in their recent novels how long-distance relationships define life across geographic distances. In Sistema nervioso, Lina Meruane, currently a visiting professor at Freie Universität, presents a clinical biography of a Chilean family whose unresolved traumas continue to reverberate today. In La mitad fantasma, Alan Pauls tells a love story set in digital times.
Lina Meruane was literature fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in 2017 and currently holds the Samuel Fischer Visiting Professorship at Freie Universität Berlin. Manuel Abramovich was a film fellow in 2018, Alan Pauls a literature fellow in 2019.
