Merche Blasco at Labor Sonor
17.04.2023 / 20:30 – 23:00
With Merche Blasco
Labor Sonor—founded in 2000 by Gregor Hotz, Andrea Neumann, and Steffi Weismann to create a platform for new experimental music beyond established institutions—is a monthly series of concerts, performances, and video, now curated by Fernanda Farah, Christian Kesten, Andrea Neumann, Arthur Rother, and Derek Shirley. Over the years, Labor Sonor has become a meeting point for the vibrant and innovative music community in Berlin.
Merche Blasco will present her first collaboration with Biliana Voutchkova at the April edition of Labor Sonor – alongside the duos Nabelóse (Elena Kakaliagou & Ingrid Schmoliner) and Cater & Rasten (Seamus Cater & Fredrik Rasten). Blasco will perform with Anette, a 3D printer that she created as her onstage interlocutor. Through EMF microphones that Blasco wears on her fingers, Anette’s electromagnetic voice becomes audible to the human ear, and the sounds of her busy mechanical body are spatialized through a quadrophonic system.
The duo of Ingrid Schmoliner, responsible for prepared piano and yodeling, and French horn player, Elena Kakaliagou – Nabelóse – repurposes traditional folk music from their native countries—Austria and Greece, respectively. Based on experiments with English and Scottish folk songs, Fredrik Rasten, guitar, and Seamus Cater, concertina and voice, present with their duo, Cater & Rasten, a repertoire of songs fused with their interests in slow and fine tuned music.
