Jacqueline
Goss

Jacqueline Goss was born in 1966 in New Hampshire, USA. She lives in New York State and teaches Film and Media Arts at Bard College, Annandale. Her video works have been shown individually as well as in group presentations in international galleries, museums and at numerous festivals. This list includes the Video and Documentary Film Festival in Kassel, the New York Film Festival Lincoln Center, the International Film Festival in Rotterdam, and the Transmediale in Berlin. She has deliberately established herself in the electronic field of film and video art and has received several awards for her works, including the New York Foundation for the Arts Award, the Creative Capital Foundation Fellowship Award and the Jerome Foundation Award.

Currently her work centres on an interest in linguistic and cartographic visual systems, along with their rules and tools, their inconsistencies and narrative fields; examples include There There Square (2002) and How to Fix the World (2004).

During her stay in Berlin, she worked on a documentary film using digital animation technology with the working title Precisely . This film depicts the politics and poetics of West European and North American surveying systems and their references to the human body. A main focus lies on the montage of digital pictures that visualise bio-metric identification systems, such as retina scans or fingerprint analysis. In her video work The 100th Undone (2001) – a soundless text-picture montage – Jacqueline Goss deals with human reproduction in the age of cloning. A love letter to the individual in the age of bio-technical reproduction, The 100th Undone uses outdated video, film, and computer effects to create a personalised pre-history for future human clones.
