Fifty Years of Künstlerhaus Bethanien

Künstlerhaus Bethanien is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in 2024. In 1973, the Berlin House of Representatives elected to establish an artists‘ venue and printing workshop inside the former Bethanien Hospital. The idea was born at the Akademie der Künste. Then presidential secretary Michael Haerdter, later founding director of the KHB, gained the backing of the German Academic Exchange Service. Since 1974, both institutions are partners of Künstlerhaus Bethanien, a non-profit GmbH. The Künstlerhaus is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with the exhibition Sounds of Bethany featuring works by Artists-in-Berlin Program alumni Terry Fox and Wojciech Bruszewski, among others.
