SEN RYO NO and Jasmina Metwaly are working on HOMONYMY, an exploration of the relationship between sound and moving visuals taking the eventual form of an experimental film which will premiere at The Long Night Of Ideas 2020.

SEN RYO NO are Audrey Chen, Nguyễn Baly and Tara Transitory. Their work crosses the disciplines of experimental music and performance. Audrey Chen has created an uncompromising and idiosyncratic music, tightly disciplined yet acoustically wild and heavy with implication. Her ultra-verbal vocalising, exposes physiological aspects of utterance that are concealed within standardised articulation and day to day speech. Nguyễn Baly encompasses experimental music and performance from an urgent postcolonial perspective exploring themes related to gender, ethnicity and the diasporic condition in her practice. Tara Transitory has relentlessly sought the interstices as an artist whose practice amalgamates sound, performance, video and installation. For years, she looked into the effects of sound on our sensitivities, the state of trance and the collective experience, traditional rituals in Southeast Asia, the effects of matriarchal, postcolonial and ancestral histories on a contemporary artistic practice.

Jasmina Metwaly is a Cairo-Berlin-based artist and filmmaker born to a Polish mother and an Egyptian father, besides her artistic practice, she is also the co-founder of Mosireen Collective and 858 Media Archive.  Rooted in film, performance and theatre, her works focus on process-based practices that have a social effect of generating tension between participants and audiences.  Taking on the position of an onlooker, she investigates the ways in which images transgress, how the role of the person behind the camera changes with stories, and how these impact collective memory. Her works are process-based, scrutinizing the methodology of the making itself, how images are collected and archived and how they can take on new meanings when deconstructed from their primal intention, how stories create other stories blurring the preconceived boundaries between documentation and fiction.

Tara Transitory is currently a guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. Jasmina Metwaly was a guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in 2016. In the framework of the Long Night of Ideas, supported by the Foreign Office.
