With Dane Mitchell
With today’s world facing mass extinction of both the physical and the digital– engendered by the breakneck pace of human progress– is the present perhaps best represented through subtraction and withdrawal? As we live in a time overshadowed by a negative accumulation and a staggering accretion of loss– how are some of today’s artists and curators responding to this?
Former grant-holder of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program Dane Mitchell, who will represent New Zealand at the forthcoming 58th Venice Biennale, looks precisely at this issue in his pavilion, entitled, Post hoc. Taking the project in Venice as a point of departure, New Zealand pavilion co-curator Övül O. Durmusoglu, artist and writer Heman Chong, and Dane Mitchell, will respond to these questions in relation to their own practice and influences.
