With Chris Jordan

Since 2011, international guest-artist residencies at the PIK (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) are part of a collaborative partnership between the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and the City of Potsdam. The aim of the program is to foster dialogue between science and art within the context of climate change research.

This year American artist, photographer, and environmental activist Chris Jordan is guest at the PIK (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research). Many of Jordan’s works are created from pictures of blind mass consumption. Walking the thin line between beauty and horror, abstraction and representation, the visible and the invisible, Jordan’s images exert an at once disturbing and moving quality.
His film »Albatross« confronts the issue of ocean plastic pollution. Set on a tiny atoll in the North Pacific Ocean, the film documents over a number of years the life and the frequently painful death of thousands of young albatrosses.

The screening is followed by a discussion with the artist.
