After many months of lockdown, the international literature festival berlin promises encounters in analogue space once again. All Artists-in-Berlin Program fellows currently present in Berlin will make their first public appearances at the literature festival. Swedish poet Athena Farrokzhad will read from her volume of poetry White Blight (German edition: Bleiweiß, translated by Clara Sondermann) for Poetry Night on September 10. On September 13, French-Venezuelan novelist Miguel Bonnefoy will present his previously unpublished novel Héritage, a Franco-Chilean family saga spanning the end of the nineteenth-century through two world wars to the Pinochet dictatorship. On September 14, author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor will talk with Elnathan John about her latest novel The Dragonfly Sea, examining life in East Africa in the shadow of the American War on Terror. On September 15, Mexican author Fernanda Melchor will talk with Florian Borchmeyer about her novel Páradais, in which she explores machismo and violence through the story of two young men. On September 16, within the scope of the festival’s theme, Word of Love and Hate: Misogyny vs. Female Empowerment, she will discuss her award-winning novel Hurricane Season with Hernán Caro. In addition, in a workshop discussion with Barbara Wahlster, Italian novelist Francesca Melandri, will provide insight into her current book project in which she continues her examination of colonialism.
