Extremera Martinez
José Luis Extremera Martinez, born in the Spanish Cordoba in 1983, became fascinated with film making already as a teenager; he made his first short film at the age of 16 and tested himself as an author, director, cutter and actor, for instance, in „Blue Eyes“ from 1999. Before being admitted to his studies, Extremera Martinez has already made two further films: „El Extraño“ (The Stranger, 2000) as well as „99“ (2001) and carried out the whole creation from the screen play to the montage completely by himself.
In the years 2001-2006 Extremera Martinez studied Audio-Visual Communication at the Salamanca and Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) universities. During this time, his short film “Three Nights without Ana” (2003) was created, a description of three distressful nights of Álvaro whose memories of his ex-girlfriend Ana haunt him shortly after their breakup. Originally meant as a class exercise, the film made it to the final round of various festivals and has been shown on Spanish television.
José Luis Extremera Martinez finished his studies in 2006 receiving a diploma. In his fifty-minutes long episodic final film „Episodios Subversivos de una Generacíon Desperdiciada“ (The Subversive Portrait of a Wasted Generation, 2006) the young director gives an insight into the world of the representative of the Twentysomething-Generation. With the use of jump-cuts and off-comments he lets the 23-year old Sur tell us of his microcosm within the chaos of his student flat, with marihuana smoking and party girls – a portrait of the fast-paced sex, drugs and rock’n’roll orientated “Generation X” of the present day Spain. Also in this case, the all-round talent Extremera Martinez works as a screenplay writer, director, producer and cutter with an excellent feeling for the rhythm and images.
José Luis Extremera Martinez works currently for a local Spanish broadcast station as a director and cameraman of various TV productions. Apart from his own projects, during his stay in Berlin the young film maker wants to continue his previous film education.
