Biwa

Historian and sound artist Memory Biwa from  Namibia came to Berlin from June to July 2019 to research sound archives and develop a radio play for Deutschlandfunk Kultur in collaboration with Zimbabwean sound artist Robert Machiri. Biwa, who teaches at Cape Town University, combines an ex-amination of cultures of remembrance, performance, sound studies, and theories of the archive in her aca- demic and artistic work. Together with Machiri she presented their joint project, Listening at Pungwe, an experimental platform exploring the sound cultures  of southern Africa at the Berlin project space, SAVVY Contemporary.
