An Encounter with Tsitsi Dangarembga
13.10.2021 / 19:30 – 22:00
With Tsitsi Dangarembga
Tsitsi Dangarembga is one of southern Africa’s best-known writers, playwrights, and filmmakers. Her involvement in social issues extends far beyond writing. In her films, plays, and political activism, she repeatedly addresses the complex, post-colonial conditions in her native land. This engagement has earned her awards such as the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, which she received this year. In the run-up to the Frankfurt Book Fair award ceremony, Tsitsi Dangarembga will come to Berlin—where she studied at the German Film and Television Academy in the early 1990s—at the invitation of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. On October 13 at 7:30 pm, Dangarembga will speak with filmmaker and project partner Ines Johnson-Spain at the daadgalerie about her cinematic practice: as director, screenwriter, producer, and teacher.
