BOOK LAUNCH: LOGAN FEBRUARY "MENTAL VOODOO"
28.02.2024 / 19:30 – 21:30
With Logan February
Logan February (Fellow Literature 2024) in conversation with translator and editor Christian Filips
Logan February describes their poems, now available in German translation (MENTAL VOODOO, trans: Christian Filips, Urs Engeler, 2023), as “self-portraits in a foreign tongue.” In their poetic practice of mental voodoo between èdè Yorùbá and English, precolonial, gender-fluid West African traditions meet the queer discourses of today and create entirely new forms of analogy magic. “A bold and spirited paean to black, queer bodies. Incisive and lively. Intricate and conceptual poetry, with confessional undertones and fatalistic intentions,” remarks Dami Ajayi. Coinciding with the book premiere, Christian Filips’s journal chronicling his work on the translation Queering Translation. Das fehlende Wort als Membran (AT) will be published on the TOLEDO program website.
