»Buch des Verschwindens«

Walkmans, rotary-dial phones, ashtrays on airplanes: in her »Buch des Verschwindens« [Book of Disappearances], Serbian author Ana Ristović casts an eye toward the things that have succumbed to the passage of time. In these short lyrical essays, Ristović’s gift for subtle observation comes to light. As things disappear, so do the activities that were once part of daily life: roller skating seemingly made for listening to music with headphones, telephone jokes told particularly well from payphone booths, or smoking on airplanes. But a shared experience is also lost with the Fico, a car once produced in Yugoslavia, as well as the K67 kiosk: a vision of a plastic world where progress is possible.

At the end of her residency in Berlin, Ana Ristović presents her lyrical miniatures for the first time. Nina Kunzendorf reads the translation by Ana Stojic. Moderated by Silvia Fehrmann.
