With Burak Çevik

Canadian composer Sarah Davachi’s haunting and simultaneously intimate and enigmatic music quickly conjures up entire worlds on the cinematic screen of one’s mind. No wonder then that filmmaker Burak Çevik (2022 fellow) raves about working with Davachi on his latest production. Sarah Davachi composed the music for A Woman Escapes, a filmic correspondence between filmmakers Sofia Bohdanowicz, Burak Çevik, and Blake Williams. This 3D film centers on a young woman in Paris who, living in the apartment of a good friend following her death, struggles with her memories and then begins communicating via video letters with two filmmakers—Burak and Blake, Çevik’s and Williams’s fictional alter egos. The film combines video diary, drama, autofiction, and correspondence, but in actuality seeks to defy all categorizations. It is an artistic dialogue between three filmmakers from different contexts, joined by Sarah Davachi’s music as a fourth voice.

On her current US and European tour, Sarah Davachi is making a stop in Berlin. On the evening before her solo performance at silent green, she will join Burak Çevik at the daadgalerie to talk about her music and the process of working together on A Woman Escapes. The discussion will be moderated by Berlin-based artist and radio broadcaster Reece Cox. Longer excerpts from the film, not yet available in Germany, will round out the evening.
