sound installation
9.8. 19h Eröffnung, 19.8. 15:30h Führung
An in-depth examination of the indigenous society of the Aymara in Bolivia and their ways of thinking about sound using the pre-Hispanic instruments of the Andean region serves as the starting point for this multilayered sound installation developed by composer Carlos Gutierrez, guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and visual artist Tatiana López Churata. The Bolivian artist duo is focused on striking a balance between indigenous knowledge and contemporary modes of thinking, and transfering these to all processes and elements related to the sound installation and its creation: the appropriation and shaping of materials available here into mechanized instruments as well as the sounds they produce and their spatial correspondences.
