Common Ground: Intimacies

Arin Rungjang (visual artist) and Manuel Abramovich (filmmaker) not only share an interest in the medium of film. They both explore the borderlands between reality and fiction, between documentary and experimental film. By confusing genre categories, they are challenging the binary world with a playful sincerity. Their fascination with the performativity of everyday life and their understanding of life as a ritualised performance opens out into an intimate engagement with diverse protagonists. Along various excerpts of their recent works, Arin Rungjang and Manuel Abramovich will engage in a dialogue about ethics, the intimacy of conversations and the performance of life.

This evening is the second Edition of our new talk series Common Ground:

Around twenty international fellowships holders are brought together under the auspices of the Artists’ program each year—from a wide variety of artistic fields and with very different political, social, and geographical backgrounds. In spite of this diversity and the historic division between the four categories of visual arts, film, literature, and music, the lines of interconnection are more than obvious.

A new series, Common Ground, focuses on these interfaces and brings the commonalities, points of friction, and translation challenges associated with different perspectives and artistic positions into a constructive dialogue.

A mix of workshop talks and discussions is designed to provide fellowship holders a platform for exchanging views on topics of shared interest. Above all, we want to offer Berlin audiences an opportunity to engage in conversation with the artists—and not only when they present themselves to the public with a finished work.
