Reception and presentation of the publication
Following the solo exhibition »KOPF HOCH! MUT HOCH! UND HUMOR HOCH!« at the daadgalerie (2017), the works of Lebanese artist Rayyane Tabet (b. 1983 in Ashqout) were presented under the title »Bruchstücke / Fragments« at Kunstverein in Hamburg (2017–18). Now, an eponymous publication brings together works from the research and exhibition project presented there, which centers on Max von Oppenheim’s excavations at Tell Halaf and took shape during phases in Marrakech, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Beirut. In 2018, its tentative final presentation will take place at the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In addition to the complex narrative strands of historical facts and personal memories that Tabet addresses in his work, the project also devotes itself to the material traces and the loss of a cultural heritage.
The publication is edited by the Kunstverein in Hamburg and the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. Publisher: KAPH Books, Beirut.
