Indigenous (Sound-)Knowledge and Contemporary Music
23.05.2018 / 19:00
With Carlos Gutiérrez
and Raven Chacon
Workshop discussion
With this workshop discussion, we would like to create a space for intensive exchange on the occasion of Carlos Gutierrez (Bolivia, guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program) and Raven Chacon’s (Navajo Nation, American Academy) presence in Berlin on residency programs. The two composers, activists, and instructors possess a profound and lived knowledge of indigenous societies and use this knowledge—in dialogue with strongly divergent societal frameworks (Bolivia and the US)—to generate relevant, topical musical inquiries and design forms in the field of contemporary music. Presented are musical forms and complex contexts, providing the starting point for a wide-ranging, open-discussion round of relevant themes.
Moderation: Kamila Metwaly
