Kasala für meinen Kaku
01.07.2024 / 19:30 – 21:30
With Fiston Mwanza Mujila
Reading and conversation: Fiston Mwanza Mujila und Uljana Wolf
Based on the poetry collection Kasala für meinen Kaku (tr: Elisabeth Müller, Ritter Verlag, 2022), Fiston Mwanza Mujila enters into dialogue with fellow poet Uljana Wolf. In their reference to the Kaku (the great-grandfather or ancestor) and a living, animistic tradition, the poems with their driving rhythms shake up common concepts and ideas of (post-)colonial life – invocations, incantations and praise (which means “Kasala” in Kiluba). Fiston Mwanza Mujila, born in Lubumbashi (Congo) in 1981, has lived in Graz for years, writes poetry, prose and theatre plays and teaches at the University of Graz. His two novels – his debut “Tram 83” in 2016 and “Tanz der Teufel” in 2022 – were published by Zsolnay and translated by Katharina Meyer and Lena Müller.
Fiston Mwanza Mujila was awarded this year’s Preis der Literaturhäuser ( and is currently a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Programme.
Uljana Wolf most recently published the volume of essays and poetry muttertask (kookbooks, 2023). She was awarded the Ernst Meister Award for Poetry in 2024.
