What contemporary music embodies with regard to various world regions and their social, cultural, and aesthetic ideas is necessarily interpreted and heard in multi-dimensional and diverse ways. Since its founding in Berlin in 1963, the Artists-in-Berlin Program has created with its residencies in Berlin the framework for points of contact and interconnections between musical varieties, repeatedly transcending boundaries between cultures, genres, and classifications. The fifth edition of the mikromusik festival focuses in particular on addressing notions of equality, diversity, and egalitarianism in societal structures and artistic experiences. It considers, for example, how an in-depth examination of indigenous social structures or the complex interrelationships of the ocean depths in the form of cultural or scientific knowledge can impact the creation of contemporary composition, instrument-making, ensemble culture, the performance setting and listening. Another focus lies on Noise Music and transdiciplinary improvisation in the performative practise of South-East-Asia.
Current and former guests of the Artists-in-Berlin Program as well as protagonists from Berlin’s arts scene are invited to develop new projects and present them in an exhibition and in concerts at the daadgalerie and the TAK in Kreuzberg.
