With Karima Shabrang
Poetry can be a refuge amid homelessness—an experience shared by three Afghan poets who will be reading at the Haus für Poesie on March 4. Karima Shabrang (b. 1985 in Afghanistan) has received numerous awards for her five volumes of poetry she has released in Persian. She has been persecuted for her poetry’s open treatment of eroticism and female desire and currently lives in Berlin as an ICORN fellow. Fariba Haidari (b. 1974 in Afghanistan) has lived in Sweden as a poet and filmmaker since 2012. Her short film Leila (2023), which will be shown this evening, explores the life of a trans woman in Afghanistan and received the Guldbagge Award for best short film. Live interpreters will translate the event into Persian and German. Moderated by Ali Abdollahi. Organized in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Berlin and the Haus für Poesie.
