Curatorial Statement by Lada Nakonechna and Bettina Klein

Artists from Ukraine have had a strong presence at DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program. Composer Valentin Silvestrov, writers Serhij Zhadan and Juri Andruchowytsch, as well as visual artists Iliya Chichkan and Boris Mikhailov were award fellows. In 2014, the much noted exhibition The Ukrainians at daadgalerie presented artistic interventions reflected artistic interventions during the political unrest in times of the Maidan movement. To honour these long-standing relationships, we have invited artist Lada Nakonechna and curator Bettina Klein to convene a series of interdisciplinary encounters with artists and cultural practitioners from Ukraine. The series starts with a Loss Report on June 25th in the framework of Uncommon Grounds and will continue in future iterations. The series is made possible through grants from DAAD Arts and Media.

Before and after the event, works by Shadi Habib Allah, Pallavi Paul (Nayi Kheti/New Harvest, 2013), Alicja Rogalska (Dark Fibres, 2021) are on view at the daadgalerie.
